This 6 505-square-meter multi-purpose recreation and conference centre spans almost 10 acres.
Facilities include a year-round NHL size ice surface, outdoor family leisure and junior Olympic swimming pools, a conference centre, a three lane indoor walking track, a 1 acre fenced-in dog park, and a YMCA/YWCA child care facility.
This facility was designed to minimize energy consumption and reduce the town’s overall environmental footprint. Energy-saving initiatives include: geothermal heat recovery, solar energy for water heating, gray water/rain water collection for ice and pool top ups, geo exchange system, and energy efficient lighting and equipment. This project also involved the remediation of Matthew’s Cove Lagoon into wetland area with walking trails and a scenic lookout, and the re-routing of a local brook.
