This is the second collaborative design-build school Marco has constructed for the Province of Nova Scotia. It has been designed to replace two older local schools, Gaetz Brook Junior High and Eastern Shore District High School.
The school will contain 35 classrooms and will occupy one storey. One wing will accommodate classrooms for junior high students and the other will be for the high school students. The central space will contain a large gymnasium and areas for administration, music, skilled trades, textiles, and nutrition, as well as the cafeteria and library. Exterior amenities will include two basketball courts and a full-sized soccer field.
The school has been designed to accommodate 650-725 students and will be constructed to allow for future expansion if required.
The site is not connected to a municipal water supply, so work will include well drilling and the creation of a septic field.
The project is pursuing Green Globes certification.
