International Day of Education: Building Spaces That Shape Futures
This Saturday, January 24, marks International Day of Education – a day to recognize the power of learning to transform lives and strengthen communities. At Marco Group, we know that education doesn’t just happen inside classrooms, it starts with the spaces where students, educators, and researchers come together to explore, collaborate, and grow.
Across Atlantic Canada, we’ve been proud to deliver schools and educational facilities that reflect the needs of their communities and the students they serve. From Memorial University’s Core Science Facility in St. John’s, which provides cutting-edge labs and collaborative research spaces for science and engineering students, to LeMarchant‑St. Thomas Elementary School in Halifax, a bright, three-storey P–6 school built to LEED standards with flexible classrooms and collaborative learning zones, our projects prioritize both functionality and inspiration.
In New Brunswick, schools like King Street Elementary in Miramichi and Hanwell K‑8 School provide vibrant, adaptable learning environments with classrooms, libraries, gymnasiums, and multi-purpose areas designed to support both academic and community activities. Fredericton North Side East Elementary School blends flexible learning pods, multi-grade library spaces, and collaborative areas to encourage curiosity and teamwork. Meanwhile, Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore District 7–12 School delivers modern, open-concept classrooms and collaborative zones tailored for 21st-century learning, ensuring that students have the space and tools to thrive.
Other projects, such as St. Joseph’s A. McKay Elementary School in Halifax and the NBCC Multi-Functional Trades Facility, show that our work spans all levels of education – from K–12 to post-secondary trades programs – creating environments that are safe, accessible, and designed to last. Each of these facilities reflects our commitment to supporting students, educators, and communities with spaces that are as inspiring as they are functional.
On this International Day of Education, we celebrate not only the power of learning but also the role that thoughtfully designed educational spaces play in shaping the next generation of learners, leaders, and innovators. We’re proud to contribute to schools, universities, and training facilities across Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia, helping to shape the futures of students for generations to come.
